Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a condition where the heart muscle becomes abnormally thick, making it harder for the heart to pump blood. 🫀 This thickening usually affects the left ventricle, and in some cases, it may block blood flow (obstructive HCM). 🔍 Causes: Genetic (inherited) condition Often diagnosed in young adults or athletes Can be present without symptoms 🩺 Symptoms may include: Chest pain (especially during exercise) Shortness of breath Fainting or dizziness Rapid heartbeat or palpitations ⚠️ In rare cases, HCM can lead to sudden cardiac arrest, especially in young people and athletes. That’s why early diagnosis and regular monitoring are crucial. ✅ With the right care, most people with HCM lead full and active lives.
