Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a condition where the heart's main pumping chamber (usually the left ventricle) becomes enlarged and weakened, making it harder for the heart to pump blood effectively. š« The heart stretches and thins (dilates), leading to reduced pumping strength and often resulting in heart failure over time. š Causes of DCM: -Genetic (runs in families) -Viral infections -Alcohol or drug abuse -Chemotherapy side effects -Uncontrolled high blood pressure or diabetes š Common Symptoms: -Fatigue -Shortness of breath -Swelling in legs and ankles -Irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia) -Chest pain (sometimes) 𩺠Diagnosis & Treatment: Echocardiogram, ECG, and other tests can confirm DCM. Treatment includes medication, lifestyle changes, and in severe cases, devices or heart transplant. šæ Early diagnosis and proper care can greatly improve quality of life.
